COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER
she / they cy@rainbowcafe.org BIO Cy started their journey of community health work at the Center for Empowerment & Justice as the executive director. The CEJ was started by the late Jim Chapman. Jim was a civil rights lawyer that had been in the field for over 50 years. Jim started the CEJ as a program to help former inmates re-enter society. In 2021 Cy took over as the executive director for a brief period after Jim's passing. Having had no experience in the field of law the CEJ became more of a local resource hub to help people get connected with the services they need. In 2022 she passed the torch to the current executive director Jennifer Lampkins. Cy did their CHW and Harm Specialist testing through IPHA and received their certification in October of 2023. Cy's goal for 2024 is to get their CRSS certification. This will help her share their personal experiences with addiction on a professional level and help others find their path such as she has. Cy is an employee for Rainbow Cafe and runs the Transgender support and Polyamory support groups. Adults seeking support in those areas are encouraged to contact them at Cy@rainbowcafe.org. Her activism started in Flint MI due to the water crisis that the citizens of Flint are still facing to this day. Cy's belief is the power of community and feels that the best way to move forward and heal is through each other. |
